Here Be Books & Games is an inviting, service-oriented bookstore and game store located in Summerville, South Carolina, just northwest of historic Charleston. We strive to provide a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere in which you can browse our 40,000+ used, rare, out-of-print, new, and collectible hardback and paperback book selection, as well as, our stock of boardgames, card games, playing cards, tarot cards, and dice. There are a few comfy chairs where you can relax and read. Cold drinks are available for purchase. We can even pull out a card table if you want to play a game.
Over 40,000 Fiction and Nonfiction Books... and Counting
With over 40,000 books in stock, you're sure to find something to your liking. Our bookstore carries hard cover, paperback, CD audio and children's books - and accepts them for trade, too. While most of our stock is used and out-of-print books, we do also have some new, rare and antiquarian books on our shelves as well. Our favorite book genres are Sci-Fi Fantasy, Roleplaying Games, Children’s Series, and Ancient History, but we make a concerted effort to stock a variety of books in all categories. We've recently expanded our metaphysics section to include new books as well as used.
We Now Stock Designer Board Games and Card Games
Towards the end of 2008 we added designer boardgames and card games to our repertoire. Now you can buy the latest Euro games locally. We now have hundreds of titles in stock. You can even try them out at Game Night, the first Saturday of every month, or stop by the store any time and see if we're up for a game. We stock a variety of games for all ages by the best game publishers, including family games, gateway games and gamer games. For more details, see the Games section of our Products page. We'd be happy to recommend a game based on your current likes and dislikes. Just ask us!
Save with Premium Trade Credit and Try Before You Buy
You can use your premium trade credit towards the purchase of new and used games we have in stock. You can even try most of our games or examine their rules and bits before you buy. We have over 140 demo games in stock. You can browse our collection of demo games at Board Game Geek.
We hold monthly Game Nights the first Saturday of every month and a variety of special gaming events throughout the year. See our events page for more information.
Roleplaying Games, Playing Cards, and Dice
In addition to all of our books and games, our bookstore carries a variety of roleplaying games (RPGs), playing cards, and dice. We're an authorized retailer for Piatnik playing cards, Crystal Caste Dwarven Stones, Dwarven Metals, and other fantasy roleplaying game dice, and Chessex dice and gaming supplies.
The first Saturday of every month is Game Night at Here Be Books & Games. We also host Dungeons & Dragons Game Days.

If we don’t have a book or game in stock, we can usually find and special order it for you, even books that are out of print. Searches are free and there's no obligation to buy. We do require prepayment on special orders. If you special order or preorder a new game, we'll give you 10% off the retail price.

Did you know that as much as 80% of a modern-day first edition's value is often determined by the condition of its dust jacket? To help protect your treasures from the ravages of time and use, we carry a complete line of Brodart archival-quality book covers. The book covers wrap over your books' dust jackets, preserving them from damage. They do not adhere to the jacket, so are easily removed. We'll happily install them for you, too.
Bookmarks and Prints
Being a bookstore, we, of course, have bookmarks. Our selection of bookmarks available for purchase varies, but we always have free bookmarks in a basket on the counter. Beautiful fine photographic prints by Philip James Photo adorn our walls and many of our bookmarks feature photography by Philip as well.
